The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's cross country teams resumed their seasons on Friday morning when they ran in the very competitive Panorama Farms Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.
Both the men's and women's teams competed against strong fields. The men competed in a 14-team field while the women were one of 13 teams racing in the meet.
Brigham Young University won both the men's and women's titles while the Syracuse men finished second and the Syracuse women were third. In the women's race, Southern Methodist was runner-up. In the men's race, Loyola finished 14th while the Loyola women were 12th, just behind American University and ahead of Hofstra.
I the 79-degree heat, freshman Kayleigh Caggiano led the Loyola women's team by taking 73rd place with a time of 19:08.3. Senior Sarah Askine finished 80th (19:17.1), junior Cordelia McGinn placed 83rd (19:24.4) and freshman Megan Crilly took 97th place (19:39.0). Sophomore Mary Sutton turned in a 108th place finish with a time of 20:05.4. Freshman Audrey O'Neill was 109th (20:06.7).
Sophomore Courtney Wallace (20:48.6), freshman Grace Jansson (21:02.3) and Kelly Williamson (21:48.6) rounded out the Loyola contingent.
Junior Alex Saffadi led the Loyola men's team as he finished 88th with a time of 27:17.5. Freshman Sam Williams ran 99th (28:01.4) while senior Bradley Beard finished in 102nd place (28:29.9). Sophomore Alex Buchholz ran 104th (28:45.1) while senior captain Tom Porth was 106th (28:52.9).
Sophomore Colin Chandler (29:50.3) and junior John Miller (32:15.7) also competed for the Greyhounds.Loyola returns to action on October 1 when both teams compete in Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational.
