BALTIMORE – The U.S. Military Academy’s Carolyn Bockrath had 13 kills with just one error, and the Black Knights defeated Loyola University Maryland, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, on Friday night in Patriot League action.
The Greyhounds (5-17 overall, 2-9 Patriot League) led through much of the first set that featured 20 tie scores and eight lead changes, and Zoe Pawlak gave Loyola a 20-19 advantage with a kill.
Nikki Lum came back for Army West Point (16-9, 8-3) with a kill to even the score, and a Loyola attack error put the Black Knights in front by one.
Loyola tied the set at 21-21 with an Army West Point ball-handling error, but the Greyhounds could not retake the lead.
The Black Knights hit .268 in the match, led by Bockrath’s .600.
Ann Ernst had 10 kills to pace Loyola, while Haley Puddy put away eight to go with four total blocks.
The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. when they host College of the Holy Cross. Loyola will honor its Class of 2017 – Micah Duzey, Jane Lukas, Kelly McShea and Lauren Youngblood – in a pregame ceremony.
