Rezanka Named USILA First-Team All-American; Wyers Tabbed Honorable Mention

BALTIMORE – Two Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse defenders earned All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Thursday with Payton Rezanka drawing first-team recognition and Cam Wyers honorable mention selection.

Rezanka earned USILA All-America honors for the second year in a row after picking up third-team recognition last season. He was also tabbed a First-Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine earlier this month.

He wrapped up his career at Loyola as one of the most decorated players at the short-stick defensive midfielder position where the Greyhounds have had four All-Americans in the last 11 years. He is the second player – joining Josh Hawkins in 2012 and 2013 – to be a two-time All-American at the position.

Rezanka, who came to Loyola from San Diego, is the first short-stick defensive midfielder to be selected to the first team (SSDMs first were honored separately from midfielders in 2016). He is the 17th individual in program history to earn first-team recognition from the USILA, and his first-team honor is the 21st overall for the Greyhounds.

This season, Rezanka compiled 19 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls while showing his skill in transition, as well. He totaled nine points with four goals and five assists in 16 contests.

Over the course of his career, the San Diego native played in 70 games and had 73 caused turnovers, 85 ground balls, nine goals and nine assists. The two-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree finished his career with 73 caused turnovers rank eighth in Loyola history overall and second among short sticks behind Laconi's 75.

Wyers became the 21st player in program history to earn All-America honors three times from the USILA after he was recognized on the third team and with honorable mention last year, as well.

The close defender tied for the team-lead with 22 caused turnovers this year in the Greyhounds' 17 games, finishing with 79 in his career, a mark that is good for fifth all-time at the school.

He started all 69 games that he played for the Greyhounds and started each of those contests at close defense. Wyers picked up 157 ground balls in his time with the Greyhounds, 31 this season.

The native of Ottawa, Ontario, will be part of the Canadian National Team that travels to San Diego and competes in the 2023 World Championships.
