PHILADELPHIA - Lehigh University President Alice P. Gast, a former chairwoman of the Patriot League's Council of Presidents, wrote an Op-Ed piece for today's Philadelphia Inquirer, recognizing student-athletes' accomplishments from being drafted by NBA teams to starring in Broadway plays.

The piece recognizes a pair of Patriot League men's basketball players -- Lehigh's C.J. McCollum and Bucknell's MIke Muscala -- who were drafted by NBA teams, as well as several League graduates who have been successful in other high-profile arenas.

An excerpt from Gast's opinion piece reads:

As proud as we are of these two draftees, my fellow Patriot League presidents and I do not expect to have pro-sports draft choices every year. Rather, we celebrate the qualities that athletes from our institutions take into the world with them, many as first-round choices of business or engineering firms, educational organizations, or graduate and professional schools.
