INDIANAPOLIS - Six Loyola University Maryland athletic teams were recognized Wednesday by the NCAA for being in the top-10 percent of their respective sports in the most recent multi-year tracking of the Academic Progress Rate (APR).

The Loyola men's tennis, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's tennis and women's track and field were among those NCAA Division I programs honored. The Patriot League, of which Loyola has been a member since 2013-2014, had 94 teams honors, second-most among NCAA Division I conferences.

Loyola's women's tennis and women's track and field teams have been recognized in the top-10 percent of their sports in each of the 10 years the NCAA has released APR data. Prior to this year, indoor and outdoor track and field were recognized as separate sports, but that data is now folded into one.

"Our student-athletes continue to perform at very high levels in the classroom, and we are as proud of their accomplishments," said Jim Paquette, Loyola's Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics. "It is always special when our student-athletes are recognized by the NCAA for the job they do in the classroom and beyond. They spend a tremendous amount of time balancing the rigors of our academic curriculum, commitments to their team and any number of other activities, community service and leadership opportunities they have at Loyola.

"We owe a special thanks to our Student-Athlete Support Services staff -- Colleen Campbell, Mark Fusiak and Andrea Hoffman -- as well as our coaches and other members of the University community for the significant role they play in our student-athletes academic success."

Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multi-year NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

Specifically, these teams posted multi-year APRs in the top-10 percent of all squads in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 academic years.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
