BALTIMORE - Former Loyola University Maryland student-athlete and longtime staff member Bill Wnek has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Jim Paquette announced today.

"This promotion recognizes Bill's accomplishments and responsibilities as a senior leader of our athletic staff," Paquette said. "Bill cares deeply for the health and well-being of our student-athletes and is highly respected both in athletics and in the university community.

Wnek has served Loyola as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance since 2004 after spending nine seasons as an assistant soccer coach at the school.

As a soccer player, Wnek led the Greyhounds to four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles, earning three All-MAAC honors as well as MAAC Player of the Year recognition in 1994, when he led the league in scoring with 14 goals and eight assists.

He currently ranks 14th among Loyola's career scoring leaders with 34 goals and 14 assists for 82 career points. After his soccer career ended, Wnek became a mainstay for the men's tennis team, earning team Most Valuable Player honors in 1996.

In his role as Associate Director, Wnek will continue his oversight of the Loyola women's soccer, volleyball, cross country and track and field programs. He also works closely with Loyola's admissions and student life offices.

Wnek also administers the school's NCAA compliance, and he will oversee sports medicine and the athletic drug education and testing program, of which he led the implementation.

In the past year, Wnek was the athletics' liaison during the school's lengthy NCAA certification process. He will also continue his service on the NCAA Men's Soccer Committee and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Committee.
